The Nkwanta South Municipal Assembly on Tuesday, July
7, held the Second Ordinary Meeting of the Third Session of the Ninth Assembly
at the NAT Hall in Nkwanta. The meeting brought together key stakeholders to
deliberate on issues relating to the development and governance of the
municipality.
Present at the meeting were the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Joseph Awal Antwi; the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), Mr. Musah Mahama Sensau; Honourable Assembly Members from the various electoral areas; Heads of Departments and Units of the Assembly; representatives of the security agencies; and a delegation from the Bank of Ghana.
The Bank of Ghana delegation was led by the Volta and Oti
Regional Director, Mr. Victor Atta Akakpo, who represented the Governor of
the Bank of Ghana. He was accompanied by officials from the Bank’s Financial
Stability Department and the Hohoe Regional Office. Their visit formed part of
the Bank of Ghana’s stakeholder engagement and public financial education
programme.
During the session, Assembly Members received training on key financial topics, including loans and credit management, digital and mobile financial services, financial fraud and scams, consumer protection, as well as building good credit and financial discipline. The presentation featured practical exercises, interactive discussions, and a question-and-answer session, enabling participants to seek clarification on the various topics and deepen their understanding.
The financial literacy programme is designed to equip
Assembly Members, as grassroots leaders, with the knowledge needed to educate
their constituents on sound financial practices. The initiative is expected to
help community members make informed financial decisions, protect themselves
from financial fraud, and improve their overall economic well-being.
Following the Bank of Ghana’s presentation, the Assembly proceeded with its statutory business. The Municipal Chief Executive presented the Executive Committee Report for deliberation. Among the key recommendations approved by the House was the construction of Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds at Akyem Ntrubo and Akyem Dzigbe to improve access to quality primary healthcare. The Assembly also approved the establishment of a dedicated task force to enforce regulations against trading on pedestrian walkways, with the aim of enhancing public safety and ensuring the free movement of pedestrians.
The meeting concluded with a presentation by the Municipal Coordinating Director on the purpose and functions of the Board of Survey. Following discussions, the Honourable Assembly Members approved the formation of the Board and authorised Management to proceed with the necessary arrangements.
