Overview

Inclusive support

The Social Welfare and Community Development Department of the Nkwanta South Municipal Assembly is responsible for promoting social protection, community empowerment, and inclusive development within the municipality. It focuses on improving the well-being of vulnerable and marginalized groups, including children, women, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. The department provides social welfare services such as child protection, family welfare support, and case management for individuals facing abuse, neglect, or hardship. It works to ensure the enforcement of child rights and protection laws, supports foster care and adoption processes, and collaborates with relevant institutions to address issues such as child labor, domestic violence, and social exclusion.

In addition, the department plays a key role in implementing government social intervention programs aimed at reducing poverty and vulnerability. It facilitates access to initiatives such as livelihood support, skills training, and community-based assistance programs to improve household incomes and resilience. On the community development side, the department promotes grassroots participation in local governance and development planning. It mobilizes communities, supports the formation and strengthening of community-based organizations, and leads public education on social issues, sanitation, gender equality, and civic responsibility.

The department also works closely with traditional authorities, NGOs, and other stakeholders to drive behavioral change, strengthen social cohesion, and ensure that development initiatives are inclusive and responsive to local needs. The Social Welfare and Community Development Department is committed to building strong, self-reliant communities and ensuring that no group is left behind in the development of the Nkwanta South Municipality.
