The Works Department of the Nkwanta South Municipal Assembly is responsible for the planning, development, and maintenance of the municipality's physical infrastructure, ensuring that essential public facilities are functional, safe, and aligned with national standards. The department plays a critical role in supporting local economic growth and improving service delivery through the provision of quality infrastructure.

Its core functions include the design, supervision, and implementation of construction projects such as feeder roads, urban roads, bridges, culverts, public buildings, markets, schools, health facilities, and drainage systems. The department ensures that all projects are executed according to approved specifications, budgets, and timelines, while maintaining strict adherence to engineering standards and regulatory requirements. In addition to new developments, the department is responsible for the maintenance, rehabilitation, and upgrading of existing infrastructure. This involves routine inspections, repair works, and the management of public assets such as government buildings, street lighting systems, and water and sanitation facilities. The department also plays a key role in disaster prevention and management, particularly in addressing flooding and erosion through proper drainage planning and infrastructure resilience measures.

The Works Department provides technical support and advisory services to other departments, units, and stakeholders within the Assembly.
