The Ghana AIDS Commission, in collaboration with the Oti Regional Coordinating Council, has successfully inaugurated a nine-member Municipal AIDS Committee for the Nkwanta South Municipal Assembly.
The inauguration took place on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at the Office of the Hon. Municipal Chief Executive. Members of the committee will serve a four-year tenure.
Established under the Ghana AIDS Commission Act, 2016 (Act 938), the Municipal AIDS Committee serves as the highest decision-making body for coordinating the decentralized HIV and AIDS response in the Municipality. The committee is mandated to meet quarterly to develop plans, coordinate interventions, and oversee activities aimed at combating HIV and AIDS within the Municipality.

Municipal Director of Health
Municipal Director of Education
Representative of the Network of Associations of Persons Living with HIV
Representative of a Civil Society Organisation working on HIV and AIDS
Representative nominated by the Christian community
Representative nominated by the Federation of Muslim or Ahmadiyya Missions
Representative from the Traditional Council/Authority
HIV Focal Person – Secretary
Members of the committee were officially sworn into office by the Magistrate of Nkwanta South, His Worship George Wellington Arhin. They took the oaths of office and secrecy, formally marking the beginning of their four-year mandate.
The ceremony was attended by the Ghana AIDS Commission Technical Coordinator for Volta/Oti, Ms. Mary Naa Asheley Anyomi, and the Oti Regional HIV Focal Person, Mr. Innocent Komla Agbolosu.
The inauguration marks an important step towards strengthening the Municipality’s coordinated response to HIV and AIDS and promoting effective prevention, awareness, support, and care for people and communities affected by the epidemic.
