The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Nkwanta South, Hon.
Joseph Awal Antwi, together with the Member of Parliament (MP) for Nkwanta
South, Hon. Geoffrey Kini, led a delegation to commission a 3-unit classroom
block, 2-unit kindergarten facility, and a two-bedroom teachers' apartment for
Nkpaya M/A Primary School on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
The delegation, which included the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), Mr. Mahama Musah Sensau, the Human Resource Manager, Mr. Christian Ogudi — representing the Municipal Education Director, Mr. Jonathan Korsinah, the Assembly Member for the area, Hon. David Abasah Nyefule, Assembly staff, officials from the Education Directorate, and personnel from the security agencies, was received by the chief and people of Nkpaya amid drumming and dancing at the school premises.
In his welcome address, Hon. Abasah, Assembly Member for area
and current Presiding Member of the Nkwanta South Municipal Assembly, commended
the MCE and the Assembly for responding to the community's long-standing call
for a new classroom block, following the collapse of the school's dilapidated
structure in 2001.
Speaking on the history of the school, the chief of Nkpaya
recounted that the school was established in 1960 and absorbed by the
government in 1963. He narrated the community's long struggle to put up a
fitting classroom block, noting that the only block built by the community
collapsed in 2001. Despite years of appeals to the authorities, he said little
was done until the MP built a pavilion for the school, and the Assembly, under
the leadership of the MCE, finally put up the new classroom block. He expressed
gratitude to the MP, the MCE, and the Assembly Member for the gesture. He also
noted with pride that the school had, over the years, produced several
distinguished individuals, including a retired Commissioner of the Ghana Police
Service, a Mr. Klu and a Dr. Edu, persons who have worked at the Education
Directorate, and a number of lawyers.
In his address, the MCE noted that President John Dramani
Mahama had charged all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs)
to ensure that every community across the country has access to schools, water,
roads, and electricity, stressing that such basic infrastructure is key to
community development. He said it was in fulfilment of this directive that the
Assembly, upon the release of the funds, committed to delivering the project.
He explained that the accommodation facility was in line with the government's
"Teacher Adepre" policy, which seeks to have teachers reside close to
their schools. The MCE further noted that Nkpaya serves as a hub for about 13
surrounding communities, which informed the location of the school, and appealed
to the chief and people of Nkpaya to continue praying for peace in Nkwanta,
stressing that peace remains essential for the continuous development of the
municipality.
Speaking on behalf of the Municipal Education Director, Mr. Ogudi noted that the new classroom block had already contributed to a rise in enrollment for the current academic year. He appealed to parents in Nkpaya and surrounding communities to enroll their children in the school, particularly those with children turning four years old, to take advantage of the new kindergarten facility. He extended gratitude to the MP and the MCE, on behalf of the Municipal Director, for the classroom block, kindergarten, and teachers' apartment.
In his remarks, the MP, Hon. Geoffrey Kini, recounted the challenges he faced as a young boy attending school without adequate facilities, which he said has shaped his commitment to supporting education wherever he goes. He appealed to parents to invest in their children's education by enrolling them in school, encouraging them, providing basic learning materials, and paying for extra tuition where needed. He charged the community to take good care of the new structures and to treat their teachers well, noting that this would help motivate them and attract more teachers to serve in the area. He expressed gratitude to the MCE, the Assembly, and the Assembly Member for the classroom block, kindergarten, and teachers' apartment, noting that the facility would serve Nkpaya and its neighboring communities. He concluded by urging teachers to continue giving their best in educating the children despite the challenges they may face.
