Nkwanta South Municipality, 28
August 2026 — The Ghana Army’s Southern Command has successfully conducted Exercise
Starlight Stretch III, an internal security and counter-insurgency exercise in
the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region.
The exercise forms part of efforts by the security services to strengthen operational preparedness and enhance their ability to respond effectively to emerging security threats. It also provided an opportunity for the Ghana Armed Forces and other security agencies to strengthen coordination and readiness in safeguarding lives and property.
Speaking on behalf of the people
of the Nkwanta South Municipality, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon.
Joseph Awal Antwi, expressed his appreciation to the Ghana Army for conducting
the exercise. He commended the officers and personnel involved for their
professionalism, commitment and dedication to maintaining peace and security in
the municipality.
Hon. Joseph Awal Antwi assured
the Ghana Armed Forces and other sister security agencies of the Municipal
Assembly’s continued support and collaboration. He emphasized that effective
cooperation between the Assembly, security agencies, traditional authorities
and residents is essential to sustaining peace and creating an enabling
environment for development.
The MCE also appealed to residents, traditional authorities, youth groups, opinion leaders and other stakeholders not to take the prevailing peace in Nkwanta South for granted. He urged all stakeholders to work collectively to preserve peace and ensure a safe and secure environment for residents, businesses and investors.
He further called on residents to
cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and accurate information
on suspicious activities that could pose a threat to peace and security.
According to the MCE, maintaining peace is a shared responsibility that
requires vigilance, cooperation and responsible participation from everyone.
The Nkwanta South Municipal
Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Ghana Armed
Forces and other security agencies to safeguard lives and property and promote
lasting peace and stability. The Assembly remains dedicated to creating a
secure environment that supports the continued socio-economic development of
the Nkwanta South Municipality.
