The Most Rev. Bishop Gabriel Akwasi Ababio Mante, Bishop
Emeritus of the Catholic Diocese of Jasikan and the first bishop of the
diocese, has paid a courtesy visit to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of
Nkwanta South, Hon. Joseph Awal Antwi. The visit followed his retirement from
active episcopal service and provided an opportunity to discuss his continued
stay in Nkwanta, particularly in Keri, as well as efforts to sustain peace in
the municipality.
During the visit, Bishop Mante expressed his commitment to supporting the peace
efforts in Nkwanta. He assured the MCE that, with his knowledge, experience and
the grace of God, he would contribute in every possible way to maintaining the
peace currently enjoyed in the area. He also reaffirmed his willingness to
support initiatives that promote peaceful coexistence among residents.
In response, Hon. Joseph Awal Antwi briefed the Bishop on the arrangements made
to ensure his comfort, safety, and smooth stay in Keri. The MCE emphasised the
Assembly’s commitment to creating a peaceful environment for the Bishop and
other residents, while working closely with the relevant stakeholders to
maintain stability in the municipality.
The MCE further outlined the security measures put in place to facilitate the
safe resettlement of the people of Keri. He explained that security personnel
regularly visit and assess the town to monitor the situation and determine its
readiness for resettlement. These efforts form part of ongoing measures to
ensure that residents can return to their homes without fear or unnecessary
risk.
Hon. Antwi indicated that reports from the Peace Council Committee and the
security agencies would be forwarded to the Regional Security Council (REGSEC)
for consideration and final approval regarding the return of the people of
Keri. The Assembly remains committed to working with traditional authorities,
security agencies, peace committees, and other stakeholders to ensure that the
eventual resettlement takes place peacefully and safely.
