Financial stewardship

The Accounts and Budget Department of the Nkwanta South Municipal Assembly is responsible for the financial management, planning, and reporting functions of the Assembly. The department ensures that all public funds are properly collected, recorded, allocated, and utilized in accordance with approved financial regulations and national guidelines.

On the budget side, the department leads the preparation of the Municipal Composite Budget in collaboration with all departments and stakeholders. This involves collecting budget inputs, analyzing revenue projections, and aligning expenditure plans with the municipality's development priorities. The department also monitors budget implementation to ensure that expenditures remain within approved limits and that resources are used efficiently and effectively. On the accounting side, the department is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records of all transactions of the Assembly. This includes revenue collection, payment processing, payroll management, and preparation of financial statements. It ensures compliance with public financial management laws and supports internal and external audits by providing necessary financial data and documentation.

The department also plays a key role in revenue mobilization by tracking internally generated funds (IGF) such as rates, fees, fines, and licenses. It works closely with revenue units to improve collection efficiency and reduce leakages. As part of their role the Accounts and Budget Department provides financial advice to management and other departments to support decision-making and ensure fiscal discipline. It monitors cash flow, prepares financial reports, and ensures transparency and accountability in the use of public funds.
