The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Nkwanta South, Hon. Joseph Awal Antwi, has highlighted the Assembly’s ongoing efforts to address key development challenges through community and institutional engagements across the municipality.
According to the MCE, the engagements have enabled the Assembly to interact directly with residents, identify their concerns and assess ongoing development projects. He noted that the exercise has also helped the Assembly identify projects that require urgent attention and determine the necessary steps towards their completion.
Hon. Joseph Awal Antwi disclosed that several ongoing projects are at different stages of completion, with some reaching about 80 percent, while others are between 40 and 50 percent complete. He said the Assembly is exploring ways to secure funding and engage contractors to complete these projects.
On education, the MCE said the Assembly has engaged senior high schools and other educational institutions to identify challenges affecting teaching and learning. These include inadequate dormitory facilities, school infrastructure, playing fields and logistical support. He added that the Assembly is working with stakeholders to improve school facilities and support students’ participation in inter-school competitions.
The MCE also identified healthcare as a major priority for the municipality. He explained that the Assembly has assessed health facilities and is engaging the relevant health authorities on upgrading existing facilities and exploring the possibility of establishing a polyclinic. Such an upgrade, he noted, would reduce the distance residents have to travel to access higher levels of healthcare.
On security, Hon. Antwi said the Assembly is also working towards improving security infrastructure, including efforts to facilitate the development of a police station. He indicated that discussions with contractors and other stakeholders would continue to ensure that outstanding works are completed as quickly as possible.
Hon. Joseph Awal Antwi reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to working with communities, government agencies, the Member of Parliament, contractors and other stakeholders to address development challenges. He said the Assembly would continue its engagements and prioritise projects that will have a direct impact on the lives and wellbeing of residents of the Nkwanta South Municipality.
